A New Life for Ricki
Ricki fit into our family very easily. Everyone loved him. He was a very energetic boy. He was just about one year when he was given to us and we planned on making his life a happy one. We sent him to get neutered and the doctors did a analysis on his condition. His broken leg had already healed though not properly. It didn't seem to give him to much trouble. Though in old age he may suffer more. To reset the leg it would have to be broken again and then set. Which would be costly. It could be done, but it wasn't necessary and it should be handled by a professional who does this type of reconstruction often. We started a site online to receive donation for Ricki. But we couldn't raise the money for his surgery. I wanted to restore his leg to the way it was. But after a time we figured that it might be more painful for him. We did use the bit of money collected to give Ricki the things he needed most. Food, doggy toys and best of all, a brand new collar with a new name tag saying he belonged to us.
Ricki's best bud in crime was Mindy. Put them together and all they would do is play. Martie was always watching and keeping them in line. Though at times Martie couldn't help but play also. Ricki learned very easily to fetch. Raquel's daughter Jael would throw things often for Ricki to bring them back. Ricki had a vendetta against balloons. He would bark at them and he became scared of them after he bit one and it popped in his face. But that didn't stop him from barking at them. He liked to be washed and blow dried and brushed though some spots didn't go well with him. His leg was a tender spot and he didn't like it brushed much but with time he did allow it. His leg never went back to the way it was suppose to be it always stayed shorter than the others. About an inch shorter. But he did get along fine and was soon running and jumping all over. Ricki loved to cuddle and was always found right between Raquel and Chris in their bed. He loved to lick people in the face and would sneak it on you if he could. We gave him the nickname LICKY RICKI. What make his licking so sweet was that his breath didn't smell so we often just let him lick us and be happy with himself.
Chris and Ricki had a playfully close bond. Chris could be found on the floor with all the dogs acting very dog like and they all loved it but Ricki seemed to think Chris was acting like a dog just for him. Chris would hug and kiss him often and of course take all the dogs for fun walks. Raquel was Ricki's cuddle buddy and he would protect her. His loud bark was defiantly outstanding though high in pitch. He also seemed to love the camera and Raquel took some nice pictures of him. He always seemed to smile in his own Pomeranian way. But to Raquel he looked more like a fox. We never knew what he was mixed with, we do know he was half Pomeranian.
Life was so happy and right, we were all so happy. Then Tragedy struck and things changed.
